		poopoorama posted a photo: I met up with Scott and Rebecca for coffee and donuts at Top Pot before heading to the Seattle Flickrites March Photostroll. The light was quite nice at our table on the upper level, so I just had to set up a shot. The coffee is a regular americano with sugar and cream. The donut is an old-fashioned with maple. And that's Twitter running on my iPhone. :)

Some of the constraints I don't like: - how they handle urls [0] - how they handle people who you like but talk to much [1] The rest is pretty good. Not too much info, uptime ok (well when I use it) and api is simple & works ~ twitter.com/bootload Some time later ... "... Why not just explain what's in the footnote when you first mention it? ..." good point, I'll see what I can do. "... I wonder if there's a better solution. ..." friendfeed does the obvious thing that is it restricts view to the latest 3 by person so as to not clutter the page. Another idea I can think of would be allow you to select who you want to clamp. "... Not an attack, just a friendly question. I've noticed you do this fairly often. ..." to stop adding ellipses (that mess up the text especially if there is a lot of them) allowing you to read. This is especially for links or side notes that relate to the main text but is added interest. Also I use hackernews as a scribble ( flickr.com/photos/bootload/sets/72157600280904949/ ) for later posts on flickr "... Bundling messages together would screw up the API and break things like twitterific ..." No just the display, not the data itself. Just grab the latest submission. If more submissions occur in "N" minutes time frame just display the latest 3, have a click & fetch more if required. It shouldn't break app using the api doing this. Friendfeed does this well. Prat. Reference [0] I don't know a good solution but if google created their own shortcuts like tinyurl the web would be a better place. [1] stacks of quick posts one after the other why not group them by person after a threshold of say 3? next >>>

Wundrbar is the next generation of search ..." lost me at "enter your twitter username & password". certainly don't need to do this with google, icerocket, yahoo, altavista. Some time later ... "... what exactly do you mean - why does that lose you? because it's asking for personal information? ..." Hi ngrandy. Pretty much. Here's why: - To extract information from twitter doesn't require my username + password - Third party sites that extract usernames + passwd information expose "users" to unnecessary risk of exposing their login details - From a development point of view using the API is not necessary if you balance the risks of user details compared to product features The reason I bring this particular point up is that I think this product is very useful & dearly would love it to succeed. But the first time I use a suggested example (eg: 'twitter bootload today') I'm required to sign over my account details. Why? You can get my latest information via RSS without having to get twitter account details. As a new company you have to listen to what users want and balance what you can offer them and what they need. In effect weighing up the risks of giving them power at the expense of exposing them to harm. For me the risk of handing over my details to simply search for them is not worth it. FriendFeed appears to achieve this balance using RSS, why not other companies? Some observations: - no SSL evident on twit account gathering (that I can see) so that username + passwd is plain-text - are twitter account details stored on a third party machine (how is it encrypted?) - how secure are the details being sent by third parties? I've looked at the current twitter best practice on third-party sites asking users for personal details for authentication. The result is it appears twitter does not endorse this approach and as far as I can tell until OAuth is offered [0] there is no real secure way. So why offer it? So I'll go one step further and get an official twitter response to the best practice for third party developers using the twitter API and user account info. You can follow here [1]. My twitter account is my personal information channel akin to my phone account. I don't hand it over to anyone easily.
